Creating a Cozy Nursery Nook in a Primary Bedroom: The Story of Sadie Harris
At Plum & Sparrow, we know how essential it is for moms to feel comfortable and connected to their babies, especially in those first few months when newborns need constant care.
Many new parents face the challenge of limited space—sometimes there just isn’t a designated room for a full nursery. But that’s where the beauty of creating a cozy and functional nursery nook in your primary bedroom comes in!
This idea became a reality for an incredible mom, Sadie Harris, whose journey to motherhood is nothing short of miraculous. Sadie and her family welcomed their first son, James, after a normal, easy pregnancy, but within a week of giving birth, Sadie found herself in a life-threatening battle with a rare bacterial infection.
She survived an emergency hysterectomy and multiple complications, defying all odds. Despite these challenges, Sadie and her husband, Ben, are now preparing to welcome their second baby, with her mother, Myndie, stepping in as their surrogate.
With Sadie’s limited space, we transformed a corner of her bedroom into a haven for her newborn daughter, and we’re excited to share some of those tips with you!
Why a Nursery Nook?
Creating a nursery nook within your primary bedroom can offer a comforting and practical solution when a dedicated nursery isn’t possible. Whether you're tight on space or prefer to keep your little one close during those early months, setting up a cozy nook for baby essentials allows you to stay organized without overwhelming your space.
Watch Sadie & Ben tell the story in their own words:
Here are a few essentials we included in Sadie’s beautiful new setup:
1. Changing Basket on Top of the Dresser
Using your existing furniture is a perfect space-saving solution, and for Sadie, we placed a beautiful Plum & Sparrow changing basket right on top of her dresser. It’s a simple, functional way to convert any dresser into a safe, stylish changing station without the need for bulky changing tables. We placed a Market Basket next to the dresser, full of diapers, for easy access
2. Moses Basket & Stand
Keeping the baby close at night is so important, especially in those early weeks when feedings and soothing happen around the clock. We positioned a Moses Basket and stand near their bed - and after the baby is born - they can slide the Basket to her bedside. Our handwoven Moses Baskets provide both safety and portability, making it easy to move from room to room.
3. Market Baskets for Storage
We all know that with a newborn comes a lot of stuff. Diapers, burp cloths, ointments, pacifiers—the list is endless! To keep things organized and accessible, we placed some of our woven Market Baskets throughout Sadie’s room. These baskets are the perfect size for holding all of those small yet essential items, making it easy for Sadie to grab what she needs while keeping her room tidy and clutter-free.
The Transformation
For Sadie, this nursery nook makeover was more than just rearranging furniture—it was about creating a space where she could bond with her newborn daughter and enjoy those precious early moments, all while recovering from the trauma of her first birth experience. After everything she’s been through, it was a joy for us to be part of making her home feel like a peaceful, functional sanctuary.
We hope this setup will help Sadie feel ready and supported as her family grows, and we know it will be just as beautiful for your family too. Whether you have a whole room to dedicate or just a corner, a nursery nook can be a perfect solution for keeping your baby close while staying organized and creating a cozy, peaceful environment for both of you.
